Honest to Goodness - A great meal in Indy
There's nothing like the original. Cafe Patachou's small but ample space in the historic Butler Tarkington neighborhood provided a casual and comfortable atmosphere for a relaxed visit with the morning paper as well as "thee" power-breakfast locale of choice. The self-serve coffee bar was a welcome site upon arrival and their "COTD" (Coffee of the day) was a decadent flavored chocolate fudge. I was then greeted warmly by my down-to-earth server who sat me at a well-lit table allowing me to spend the next few minutes comfortably alone with my paper prior to my guest arriving.
Once my guest arrived, he ordered hot green tea and we both ordered the omelets of the day -- a daily changing fare with healthy and non-traditional ingredients folded into a velvety egg creation. This day, we enjoyed mushrooms, herbs, onions and Alouette cheese. The eggs came accompanied by what I believe is Cafe Patachou's number one asset -- their sweet cinnamon sourdough toast, dripping with butter. The meal was capped with a small fruit cup of fresh berries and melons which were adequate but nothing special.
My only critique is that the coffee mugs are too small compared to their downtown location, requiring a couple too many returns to the coffee bar.
Overall, an excellent experience as expected and we will be back.

A special gem in midtown
Nestled in the heart of the Meridian-Kessler neighborhood, the original Cafe Patachou offers gourmet fare with friendly, genuine service. We went for brunch and, due to the Saturday morning breakfast crowd, we sat at the counter instead of our usual table. The quality of service was not compromised. The broken yolk sandwich with bacon is the best breakfast sandwich in town and, as usual, was both filling and delicious. We also ordered the croissant french toast and the fresh waffle. The french toast offered incredible, rich flavor, especially with the powdered sugar and candied pecans, and the waffles simply melted in our mouths. Each dish came with a side of fruit, which was good, but not memorable. The diverse crowd gives Cafe Patachou a "big city" feel, despite being in the middle of a quaint Indianapolis neighborhood. We will certainly be back for more great Patachou experiences!
